Overall Objective

RESCOPAR aimed to study the resilience of coastal populations and aquatic resources, with an emphasis on mangrove ecosystems, shrimp culture and associated diseases and coastal fisheries.

Specific Objectives

• To understand the social resilience of fish based livelihoods and ecological resilience of living aquatic resources in mangrove and near shore estuarine ecosystems in South East Asia with specific reference to Indonesia (Kalimantan) and Vietnam (Ca Mau);

• To provide means that enable decision makers access to the information obtained and understanding of the processes underlying the trade-offs in resource use at the various interacting spatial and temporal scales;

• To facilitate a participatory and transparent decision making process by elucidating the position of stakeholders with regard to management tools and interventions.

Outputs

RESCOPAR contributed to increased knowledge on a cross-cutting societal problem such as coastal zone management, and to scientific knowledge and information that can be used for well-described categories of clients (policy makers, research and education organisations, farmers or others).
