Graduation Ceremony for International Masters in Aquaculture - 4th Cohort
On October 23rd, 2021, Can Tho University (CTU) solemnly held a Graduation Ceremony for International Masters in Aquaculture - Fourth Cohort. Attending the ceremony were Prof. Tsunoda Manabu, Chief Advisor of the JICA CTU Project; Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Vice Rector of CTU; representatives of CTU's units; staff and students of College of Aquaculture and Fisheries, especially new masters.

The International Master's Program in Aquaculture is one of the first international Master's programs of CTU. The program was launched in 2016 under the financial support of the VLIR-UOS program. From the second cohort, CTU has awarded five more scholarships to increase the study opportunities for students. Up to now, this program has enrolled 50 international students including 05 students of 1st cohort, 09 students of 2nd cohort, 16 students of 3rd cohort, and 20 students of 4th cohort.
This is a special training program with a new teaching model by the cooperation between CTU and domestic and foreign institutes and universities. The teaching staff who are from CTU, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Hue University, Nha Trang University, Research Institute for Aquaculture No. 2, especially Ghent University, Belgium, make the training program special and highly beneficial to learners.

The 4th cohort (2019 - 2021) of the International Master's Program in Aquaculture has 20 students from Cambodia, Kenya, Malawi, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Viet Nam. During the two-year training period, the students have completed 24 courses (equivalent to 65 credits). Most of the courses are co-taught by the teaching staff of CTU and the program's partners. Students experienced internships at the end of the first year at experimental zones or practical sites of the program's partners. In addition, field trips are also organized for students to visit hatcheries and farms, etc. In the last semester, theses were conducted and defended.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan, Rector of CTU, sent congratulations to the new masters who have successfully completed the program. CTU's international Master's program in Aquaculture is gradually affirming its quality with an increase in number of students over the years, this is the success of CTU in particular and its partner universities and institutes in general in receiving and training international students. CTU is always open to welcome the masters back for further study, research or collaboration in the near future. Prof. Dr. Ha Thanh Toan sent his sincere thanks to the VLIR-UOS Program for financial support to form and develop this training program, to all professors and staff from the VLIR Network's partners including Vietnam National University of Agriculture, Hue University, Nha Trang University, and Research Institute for Aquaculture No. 2, and Ghent University for their great supports and contribution to the success of the program.
Master Kevin Ngoge Nyabuto from Kenya spoke at the Ceremony
Although the two-year process of study is not too long, it still leaves deep memories in the hearts of the students. On behalf of the students of the 4th cohort, new master Kevin Ngoge Nyabuto had emotional sharing about difficulties in the study process, memories, especially affection, help and support among students and with administrators and teaching staff. The new master also sends special thanks to his family and relatives and expresses his deep gratitude to the VLIR-UOS Program, CTU, and teaching staff, who have inspired the students to be more confident as they step through the new page of life. The new master shows his determination to bring the acquired knowledge, experience and skills to apply effectively in practice, contributing to the development of his homeland.
