The mission of the faculty is to offer education, research, and technology transfer in seed production and culture of freshwater fish species.
Staff:
The faculty has 9 lecturers, 7 researchers, and 1 administrative assistant, holding different titles and degrees including 8 Ph.D. with 1 professor, 5 Associate professors, 8 masters (3 Ph.D. students), and 1 engineer (currently studying for a master's degree).
Education:
The faculty offers specialized courses on biology, nutrition, seed production, culture techniques, genetic breeding, and culture models of freshwater fish and shrimps for bachelor, master, and Ph.D. students.
Research:
Research focuses on the following areas:
- Artificial reproduction of indigenous freshwater fish species with successful protocols for striped catfish, basa catfish, climbing perch, snakeskin gourami, giant snakehead, snakehead, marble goby, wallago, tire track eel, swamp eel, and some other ornamental fish...
- Applications of advanced technologies to enhance productivity and efficiency of culture models.
- Nutrition requirements and feed development of important aquaculture species.
- Genetic diversity and genetic improvement for important aquaculture species.
Training and technology transfer:
The faculty regularly organizes short training courses for local and international participants such as:
- Integrated farming systems such as VAC, rice-fish, and giant prawn–rice.
- Intensive pond culture systems (catfish, climbing perch, snakehead) and in cage (catfish, marble goby, tilapia, barbs)
- Freshwater fish seed production such as striped catfish, bighead catfish, snakehead, climbing perch, feather knife fish, snakeskin gourami, swamp eel…
- Applications of advanced technologies in culture models for sustainability and climate change adaptation.
- Building feed formula and feed production for important aquatic species.
- Quality control of fish/ shrimp broodstock.
