DEPARTMENT OF COASTAL AQUACULTURE
Background
The missions of the department are to offer education, research and technology transfer in seed production and brackish water aquaculture.
Education
The teaching subjects of department to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students are hatchery seed production and farming of crustaceans, marine fish, mollusk, shellfish, seaweed, and live food culture.
Research
The main research fields of the department are focused on development of new applied technologies for seed production and farming systems of important marine and brackish water species such as black tiger shrimp, whiteleg shrimp, giant freshwater prawn, pompano, eel, kingfish, oyster, mangrove snail, geoduck, seaweed, and artemia.
Training and technology transfer
The department regularly organizes training courses on technology transfer with topics following:
Seed production of whiteleg shrimp, black tiger shrimp, giant freshwater prawn, mud crabs, and marine fish in different farming systems such as RAS, Bio-floc.
Shrimp farming practices, giant freshwater prawn, marine fish, a mollusk with integrated farming system, RAS, Bio-floc.
Artemia culture
Study tour on coastal aquaculture in the Mekong Delta.
Facilities
The department has five (5) brackish water hatcheries in the College of Aquaculture and Fisheries and one (1) research center in the Soc Trang province for services of education, research, and technology transfer.
