Department of Aquatic Nutrition and Products Processing
Background The Department of Aquatic Nutrition and Products Processing was established in 2006 on the basic of the Department of Applied Biology. The mission of the department is to provide teaching, research and out-reach activities on aquatic eco-toxicology, physiology, nutrition and processing technologies. Education The Department offers courses on aquatic physiology, nutrition and toxicology for bachelor and master students of various. In particularly, the Department is responsible for bachelor educational program on Aquatic Products Processing. Within this field, the department delivers courses on aquatic food canning technology, aquatic food chilling and freezing technology, refrigerating plant, aquatic food chemistry and bio-chemistry. Research The Department has conducted researches related to aquatic animal physiology and hematology, nutrition and feeding; development and validation of methods for the analysis of chemical and drug residues in aquatic animal and environmental samples; preservation and storage of aquatic products. Above researches have been focussed on commercially important species such as catfish, snakehead, giant freshwater prawn, tiger shrimp, rice-field ell,… Training The Department regularly or casually offers short training courses for local and international participants on analytical techniques for aquatic animals, feeds, feed ingredients, chemical and drug residues in aquatic animals; on aquatic animal feed digestibility and feed technology,… Facilities The department manages several laboratories and wet-labs for practices of students and research of staffs. Laboratories include nutrition and feed technology, zoo-physiology, aquatic food safety and aquatic food processing.

ASEAN Fisheries Education Network - ASEAN-FEN

In order to strengthen and promote collaboration in education, research, information exchange as well as staff and student exchange in aquaculture and fisheries among ASEAN countries and with other international institutions and organizations for sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries in the region, nine Universities including Can Tho University (Vietnam), Kasetsart University (Thailand), Nong Lam University (Viet Nam), Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (Thailand), Universitas Airlangga (Indonesia), Universitas Brawijaya (Indonesia), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (Malaysia), Universiti Sains Malaysia (Malaysia) has jointly established and made the Declaration of the ASEAN Fisheries Education Network (ASEAN-FEN) on 30 October 2014 during the International Fisheries Symposium – IFS2014, Surabaya, Indonesia.
