On April 26, 2023, the College of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CAF), Can Tho University (CTU) held a ceremony to award the Certificate of Appreciation of the Rector of Can Tho University to appreciate of Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont, Director of the Institute of Life, Science and Environment, Faculty of Science, Namur University, Belgium, in recognition of his contributions on training and research of CTU.

The ceremony had the presentation of Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong, Chairman, CTU Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, CTU Vice Rector; Prof. Dr. Vu Ngoc Ut, CAF Dean; staffs representing CAF’s Departments and the staffs who were studied under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont in doctoral thesis.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Vu Ngoc Ut, Dean of CAF expressed his pleasure, thanked and highly appreciated the valuable contributions of Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont in scientific research and training cooperation with CAF. Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont visited CAF for the first time in 1998. After 25 years of cooperation, Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont has (i) coordinated and participated in many international collaboration (bilateral collaboration between Belgium and Vietnam; and projects funded by ARES-CCD such as Deltaquasafe, BioAquaActive, Pangagen, Diversaqua, ...); (ii) taught master students in aquaculture; (iii) been supervisor of 3 PhD students registered in Namur University who are staff of CAF and local authority; (iv) Short-term training for many staffs  in the field of physiology and immunity of aquatic animals; (v) Co-author to publish 26 articles with staff of the College of Aquaculture and Fisheries in prestigious international journals.

At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Patrick Kestemont expressed his gratitude to receive the noble certificate of Can Tho University. The professor hope that he will continue to cooperate in scientific research and training with the CAF-CTU in order to improve the expertise and capacity of the staffs and lecturers of the college, and then contribute to increase the benefits and development of aquaculture.
